What I want is just one simple site. Categories on the left which, when clicked show products and information with a buy now button. This should then take them to a checkout. I basically just want a simple shop like all the others you see on the net but I haven’t been able to get this with my past 5 hosts.

I have no html knowledge so would need some kind of sitebuilder and a shopping cart facility.

Also, I’d like to spend less than £10/ (I won’t have that many products on the site at first).

So can someone please recommend me a good site?

I am starting a website, and looking for a host. I found these 3, and they all seem too good to be true:

http://www.StartLogic.com : Unlimited Bandwidth, Unlimited Space, Free domain. 5 bucks a month.

These places have similar deals:

That just seems extremely cheap. Looking elsewhere, its more like a month for limited bandwidth and space.

Is there a catch? Are these sites reliable?

I haven’t bought webspace in a long time, so I am a bit lost. But, I just don’t understand how these are so cheap/why everyone doesn’t use them.

The main problem with everyone is that they oversell their packages and the sites all slow down.

I needed dedicated IP addresses as I am targeting keywords in google with a few different sites so I went for IX and their 8 IP offer and so far so good, no downtime and very quick support.
Compared to Hostgator the support is 100 times better, compared to godaddy the speed is about 2.7 times faster.

I won’t even mention what happened to me with Bluehost as I don’t want to be negative here but they were VERY Blue indeed, like deep water. (Hostmonster is the same company as Bluehost)

So far I have had no probs with IX, touch wood.

Well, setting up a MySQL database requires your website host to provide it in the first place. If you have a dot5 host. Go to their website and try to find out the features of the package you signed up for. If it does have MySQL support, you can start building it right away from the Control Panel like page your host offers you. First find out from where you can create a new MySQL database. After creating it, look for a tool called phpMyAdmin. This allows you to visually create the table for your database. After all this is done, you can proceed to learn php and mySQL scripting to get your job done. Here’s a good site to start learning:

Don’t host with domain registrars like GoDaddy. They’re good only for domains.

I would really like to recommend Serverbeach. They have good dedicated servers on offer and give a 99.999% uptime guarantee.

Don’t go with shared hosting if you’re intending to set up an online store. You don’t want to share your bandwidth with other customers using the same server that your site is hosted on. It is better to get a dedicated server. Its well worth the price.

But how reliable are these host? Like gator and Dot5? And does anyone know of any Actually reliable host they have had experience in?

I’ve heard hostgator is pretty good, though I’ve never tried them myself.

But really, unlimited hosting is usually unnecessary. And as you’ve probably noticed, it’s hard to find one that’s reliable because they generally oversell and the servers crash. I think it’s more important to figure out how much space you’ll need. More likely than not, what you’ll need a lot of is bandwidth, not so much webspace. You could have an incredibly small site in webspace (like under 5MB) but use bandwidth like crazy if you get a lot of visitors.

I like this guy because he’s more than a “pretty face.”

He’s unproven as a stud, but his lineage is good and he is out there competing and performing. This is the kind of young stallion that a responsible breeder will try a few coverings to see what he puts on the ground.

If I were gambling on a lower stud fee, these are the odds I’d prefer…getting in on the ground level of a horse that is actually successfully doing what he is bred to do.

(The other guy WAS pretty, though…I’ll give him that.)
