Ive read a feeeew bad reviews online, but I feel like they cant be trusted.
I am starting a website, and looking for a host. I found these 3, and they all seem too good to be true:
http://www.StartLogic.com : Unlimited Bandwidth, Unlimited Space, Free domain. 5 bucks a month.
These places have similar deals:
http://www.hostmonster.com/
http://www.dot5hosting.com/dot5/special_promo.bml
That just seems extremely cheap. Looking elsewhere, its more like a month for limited bandwidth and space.
Is there a catch? Are these sites reliable?
I haven’t bought webspace in a long time, so I am a bit lost. But, I just don’t understand how these are so cheap/why everyone doesn’t use them.
Thanks for any help.
If these are ok, which one is best?
Thanks guys

The main problem with everyone is that they oversell their packages and the sites all slow down.
I needed dedicated IP addresses as I am targeting keywords in google with a few different sites so I went for IX and their 8 IP offer and so far so good, no downtime and very quick support.
Compared to Hostgator the support is 100 times better, compared to godaddy the speed is about 2.7 times faster.
I won’t even mention what happened to me with Bluehost as I don’t want to be negative here but they were VERY Blue indeed, like deep water. (Hostmonster is the same company as Bluehost)
So far I have had no probs with IX, touch wood.

Hostgator or Godaddy arethe best and I have over 30 websites between them for years.
Jgiff.net for a free host!
Good luck
They’ve actually been around for quite a long time and have good reputations. In fact, I’d like to add bluehost.com, midphase.com, and surfspeedy.net to the list.
They aren’t actually able to provide all that for such a price, or at least, not to every customer. This is a practice called overselling, where they sell more resources than they are actually able to provide and hope that nobody uses the resources. Most customers will get the almost-unlimited package and use only a small portion of it – eg. a business customer with a 10MB website and two emails. Very rarely, there will be a customer that stores up to 5GB of data and has 100 emails. The resources that other customers don’t use will go towards that.
There’s just way too much competition in the web hosting industry these days, and extreme overselling is an requirement. For perspective, a dedicated sever with 80GB HD space, 2.4GHz processor, 1GB RAM, and 500GB bandwidth costs approximately $120/mo. A host breaks even at 24 websites at $5/mo, which will nicely run on the box if the average website uses no more than 3.5GB of diskspace and 20GB bandwidth.
The cutthroat competition is beyond brutal, and it’s almost bigger than anything I could have imagined five years ago. Everyone isn’t using them because there’s so many hosts that have similar deals, and people can’t seem to appreciate how good of a deal they’re getting.
Hosting is a scale business, so the bigger the host is, the safer you will be. Many hosts can go out of business just like that and it’s terrible if you have already paid in fully for 1 or 2 years in advanced, so make sure you have everything backed up. Don’t be so concerned about the price – go with big names and make sure the host has been in business for a long time because they have a reputation to keep.
I only use Netfirms and 1&1 Internet Hosting since they have a very broad customer base and have been in business for a long time.
